Never before in Ram Records’ 25-year history has a story as unique and exciting as Bensley’s unfolded. No previous releases. No previous DJ shows. The then-19-year-old Canadian sent a demo to Andy C’s label and was signed exclusively soon after. He exploded onto the Drum & Bass scene in 2015 with an album that turned heads and received critical acclamation throughout both press and radio. With support from the likes of Zane Lowe, Mistajam & Friction, his debut release ‘Fandango’ made its mark and secured Bensley a spotlight that would cultivate an illustrious music career. As an accomplished saxophonist influenced by jazz pioneers like Dave Brubeck & Charlie Parker, it’s clear to see how Bensley’s wide range of influence and strong classical foundation allow him to flourish in electronic music. His compositions capture the essence of everything that’s exciting in
Drum & Bass and beyond. Instantly resonating yet sounding like nothing you’ve heard before, each of his productions conveys a contemporary energy and dynamic that’s immediately distinctive. Bensley’s namesake has only grown, with the producer becoming a pinnacle part of leftfield DJ sets and symbolising the next generation of the Ram Records roster. He’s solidified his style through a series of impressive single releases including ‘Tiptoe’, ‘One Last Chance ft. Skyelle’ & ‘Under the Sunshine’, as well as official remixes for heavyweights Flux Pavilion, Camo & Krooked and Azari & III. Inspired by recent tours in Australia, New Zealand & South Africa, Bensley aims to broaden his repertoire and cement his place within the scene in 2019. He’ll demonstrate this with a string of singles including ‘Hard Times ft. Emer Dineen’ & ‘Kilauea’, followed by the release of his long-awaited sophomore album this summer. Stay tuned.
